A 17-year-old-boy and a 16-year-old girl have been charged by police over the deaths of two kittens in Ruislip, west London.

Following their arrest on Monday, the pair were charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

A police investigation began when two kittens were found in a field near Ruislip Golf Course on 3 May, appearing to have been tortured and dismembered.

The teenagers are due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Following the discovery, police appealed for information and released CCTV images of suspects, as well as an image of a black bag believed to have been used to carry the animals in.

A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl previously arrested in connection with the incident have been released without charge, police said.
